Erin Ruben focuses her practice on complex civil litigation, though she brings a wide range of experience in both civil and criminal law. She began her career in 2006 as a public defender with Virginia’s Indigent Defense Commission, representing vulnerable defendants in felony criminal matters before judges and juries in the district and circuit courts of Fairfax County and in the Virginia Court of Appeals.

After relocating to North Carolina in 2009, she began her civil litigation practice, primarily representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice, personal injury, and employment matters. From 2015-2017, she also owned and operated a small business with a retail location in Raleigh, NC, which provided her with a wealth of practical experience regarding the legal challenges faced by small business owners. Erin is passionate about protecting and defending the rights and dignity of her clients through zealous, compassionate legal advocacy.

Erin earned her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2006, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board. She obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Marketing from the University of Georgia in 2003, in addition to a Certificate in Personal and Organizational Leadership from UGA’s Institute for Leadership Advancement. While at UGA, Erin was honored to be named a Leonard Leadership Scholar, recognizing her academic achievement and demonstrated leadership.

Erin is currently involved in litigation in the U.S. Virgin Islands on behalf of hundreds of homeowners seeking to recover fraudulently withheld insurance proceeds. These homeowners experienced catastrophic damage to their properties during Hurricanes Maria and Irene, and due to their insurers refusal to pay the amounts owed under their policies, many have been forced into unlivable conditions as they await the insurance proceeds needed to repair their homes.
