The EPA has recently accused Fiat Chrysler of installing software that appeared to emit lower emissions during pollution tests. The software was installed in 2014-2016 Diesel Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks and 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 3.0-liter diesel engines.
The software in the vehicles is thought to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide emitted during emissions tests, obscuring the fact that the vehicles emit more pollution than is allowed under the Clean Air Act. Volkswagen was sued for installing similar software in its vehicles and settled for $14.7 billion dollars.
